Based in Amsterdam, PISSWIFE’s activism wishes to speak to feminists all over the world, however still remaining in touch with our roots in the Netherlands. This is why every month, we’ll present to you an agenda of interesting readings, protests, lectures or exhibitions in this country that PISSWIFE will attend or that could be of interest to our readers. This month, these are our suggestions:
(DUTCH) 3rd of October – Bab’s Woordsalon: Dubbelboed
PISSWIFE has been a fan of Babs Gons since her performance at the Women’s March in 2017. This year, she has been keeping herself busy hosting a “Woordsalon”: A night filled with literature, poetry, spoken word or anything alike about a certain topic. This time, the Woordsalon deals with the theme of “Dubbelbloed”. It’s about people who have multiple cultural identities and the pride they feel and struggles they face. On of Babs’ guests of this night is Etchica Voorn, who published a book about this topic earlier this year. You can get your tickets online.
(DUTCH) 11th of October – De (on)macht van borsten, baarmoeders en vulva’s
Bodyparts that are typically considered “feminine”, have a complex political situatedness. This event revolves around the theme of ownership of your body. Mineke Schipper is one of the speakers, as she wrote a book about how “feminine” (however not limited to female) body parts are conceived. “During this evening she will show how the balance of power between man and woman has developed and how they are now in full swing. Then we discuss the consequences of these changing power relations.” The event will be held in De Balie.
12th of October – GFN x Hollaback: Queer Street Harassment Talk and Workshop
This very important event is being held in Groningen, not in Amsterdam. However, we did find it essential to highlight. “Hollaback! is a movement to end harassment in public spaces powered by local activists. For this event, the Groningen Feminist Network has invited them to give a workshop on bystander intervention in street harassment incidents, with a specific focus on the forms of public harassment queer folks may face.” The location of this event is not 100% clear yet, but keep an eye on their Facebook Event.
27th of October – Girls go BOOM x Studio/K – Halloweenparty
AND / OR
28th of October – Girls go BOOM: The Halloweenparty
Our friends over at Girls go BOOM are organizing amazing Halloween parties this year! If you can’t make it to the one in Amsterdam, you can go to the one in Rotterdam the next day! Or both?! Both parties will feature two grunge acts, the first being FFOOSS from Utrecht and the second is a UK-based band called Witch Fever. The rest of the night DJ’s will play some sweet tunes for you to dance to! More information can be found on the Facebook events and you can buy tickets at the door.
(DUTCH) 29th of October – De geschiedenisles die je nooit hebt gehad!
On this Monday, De Rode Hoed is hosting the launch party of F-site, a website that has a mission: Women have been rendered invisible by mainstream history education and F-site is here to change that. The F-site will be an online education platform with teaching materials about women in history. Teachers can find free and accessible teaching materials that fit in with the ten periods in history education. Check out their Facebook event for more information. Tickets are sold here.
