Based in Amsterdam, PISSWIFE’s activism wishes to speak to feminists all over the world, however still remaining in touch with our roots in the Netherlands. This is why every month, we’ll present to you an agenda of interesting readings, protests, lectures or exhibitions in this country that PISSWIFE will attend or that could be of interest to our readers. This month, these are our suggestions:
1st of March – Dam’d Queer Night
Dam’d Queer Night promises to be a hell of a night, filled with performances by Gravity Grave and Sang de Boeuf, music by Nocturnal Femme and others and a market! If you dress up as a movie reference, you get in for free. If you don’t dress up, the party will cost you 4 to 6 euros. It starts at 21:30 and you can find this event at Overtoom 301. “Everyone is welcome to express their queerness in this Dam’d Queer Night. Everyone is invited! Me, you, the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover.”
3rdof March – The Women’s March NL x Kargadoor Sign Making Event
“The Women’s March on Amsterdam 2019 will be held on March 9th, with the message: all oppression is connected. Everybody (f/m/x) is welcome, as this is an intersectional feminist movement that goes way beyond women!” This is the message of this year’s Womens March on dam Square. Keeping this in mind, come join us and create your best protest signs and think of the greatest intersectionally feminist chants. This event is held at the Kargadoor in Utrecht. Madeleijn (better known as Zeikschrift) will be speaking here!
3rdof March – Expo #ikbenhetzat
Also on the third of March, but in Amsterdam, Anton de Bruin Photography is hosting an exhibition called #ikbenhetzat. The purpose of this expo is to show that you are not alone, but that we form a front with people who are against the Anti-LGBTQ+ violence. The expo opens at 17:00 in Warmoesstraat 51, right in the center of Amsterdam.
8thof March – UIT JE CLIT: PISSWIFE LAUNCH PARTY
We are launching our second zine at this party! Come pay us a visit in de Melkweg and dance to tunes by Pink Oculus, Fata Boom and Rachel Green.
9thof March – Women’s March on Amsterdam
Of course, it is absolutely mandatory to attend the Women’s March on Amsterdam this year. With a new organizational team being settled, the Women’s March is putting in the work to be more inclusive and intersectional than before. With 21K people interested in going to the event as I am typing this article, the Women’s March is bound to be a big one. “When our voices are welcomed or heard more than someone else’s voice, we have a responsibility to step up. We acknowledge that, and we stand firmly with and behind all of the progressive activist voices in the Netherlands. We’re all in this together – so let’s be heard as one voice, but represented by all of us.” Afterwards you might find us partying at Church of Lesbique.
11thof March – From #MeToo to #WeToo
Our friends over at Our Bodies Our Voice joined forces with Amsterdam United to host an important event at de Brug in the Roeterseiland Campus location of the University of Amsterdam. “In the wake of the Women’s March on Mar. 9, Amsterdam United is proud to invite you to “From #MeToo to #WeToo” an event that will explore the ways we can create a more inclusive movement that pays attention to the many different forms of oppression and (sexual) harassment that people are subjected to. We want to highlight why the conversation needs to be more intersectional and raise awareness on everyday experiences, and provide people of all backgrounds and all identities.” You can RSVP here.
23rdof March – Demonstratie: Samen tegen racisme
“Right-wing populist and far-right parties are emerging all over the world. They try to increase their power with elections. In the Netherlands, we have two parties with the PVV and FvD on the far right flank, which are constantly going further in their embrace of racist ideas. The established politicians are involved in this, for example by using refugees as scapegoats for a lack of jobs and affordable housing.” This speaks for itself! SHOW UP! 14:00 at dam Square.
30thof March – RIGHTABOUTNOW FESTIVAL
PISSWIFE’s Isabel is showing her phenomenal artworks at RIGHTABOUTNOW FESTIVAL this Saturday. Make sure to show your support and stop by this festival in the Compagnietheater. “At the RIGHTABOUTNOW Festival next gen artists from a variety of local and global Hip Hop subcultures exchange ideas and show what they’re about right now.” Get your tickets here.
30thof March – Girls go BOOM: Zine Fest
The amazing women from Girls go BOOM are hosting a zine fest! We’re super excited to go to another one of their events. Bands playing at the fest include Get Jealous and The Klittens (from Amsterdam as well!) The event will be held in Roodkapje Rotterdam and it starts at 20:00.
