Thierry Baudet, the leader of the political party Forum voor Democratie (FvD) has caught a lot of people’s attention with his outrageous statements and opinions. Unfortunately it also seems that the same statements led him and his party to be an unexpectedly successful party in the Dutch provincial elections in March, 2019.

Here’s a list of things Thierry Baudet has said:

“Like all the other countries in our boreal world we are being destroyed by the very people who are supposed to protect us. We are being undermined by our universities, our journalists. By people who get art subsidies and who design our buildings.”

*The word ‘boreal,’ favoured by far-right politicians including Jean-Marie Le Pen, is a term for Aryan or white supremacy.

“There is no increase in extreme weather. The climate is warming up at a much slower rate than predicted. More CO2 has a fantastic effect on plant growth. Smog in India has nothing to do with CO2.”

“I do know that women in general do not excel as much in some professions and are less ambitious. They are often more interested in family and suchlike.”

“The reality is that women don’t just wanted to be treated ‘respectfully’ by their sex partner; they don’t want you to respect their ‘no’, their resistance. The reality is that women want to be overruled, dominated, yes, overpowered.”

“The best would be if we are absolute rulers. We should be less universalistic. We should let go of the ideas that all people are completely the same.”

“To prohibit racism makes no sense. Equal opportunity for everyone is not realistic.”

Together with his voters and supporters, Thierry Baudet is building an ideology for the 21st century that seeks to re-establish the nation-state in the form that Europeans imagined in the beginning of the 19th century. His position towards democracy, women, LGBTQ+ community, immigration and climate change amongst others, translates in our point of view to nothing less than sexist, racist and fascist. That his party has gained a tremendous amount of votes naturally concerns us because it speaks to the level of normalization of hatred our politics has reached. These values, beliefs and the worldview amongst FvD’ers is something that we strongly oppose; we believe in equality, community, unity and progress not hatred and ignorance. It was this sentiment that led us to create a T-shirt that reads ‘Fuck Thierry Baudet’: to express what we feel about him and the position that FvD currently holds. The harshness of this statement does generate the attention needed to make clear what this man stands for.

On April 13th, Pisswife posted a photo on Instagram with one of our members wearing the anti-Thierry Baudet t-shirt with the intention of letting like-minded people know that these T-shirts are being sold as Pisswife merchandise. We think it is necessary to strongly distance ourselves from Baudet and give others a tool to also publicly condemn the things he has said. This was followed by a barrage of hundreds of hateful, violent, misogynist, white supremacist and homophobic comments by followers and supporters of his party. This was aimed not only at Pisswife as a publication, collective and organisation, but at some of our members personally. It is one thing to respond to Pisswife’s message, it is another to find and personally attack its members. And yet, we will not be silenced.

Pisswife was founded as an inclusive platform for feminists of all backgrounds, it’s a community where we collectively can make our voices heard by addressing and supporting causes and issues that matter to us. It is a project that gives us the opportunity to freely express ourselves and to create the change we long to see in the Netherlands and the world.

Some of the issues we deeply care about are the threat of institutionalised misogyny and white supremacism: Pisswife is proud to take a stand against them wherever they are found, and no less when they find us. We thank all our members, supporters and feminists everywhere for all the work they are putting in to fighting for each other, and we will continue to do so.

Thierry chose to give the finger to all women, so we just gave him a finger back.

For everyone that DOES support our message against the normalization of his ideas, our ‘Fuck Thierry Baudet’ shirts are still available and aren’t going anywhere.

Lots of love,
